The more lived experiences I acquire—personally and professionally—the more I understand that life is anything but black and white. There is so much gray!

Gray is the cornerstone of my message and memoir. It is the rich place between black and white where we learn to accept life’s uncertainties and define our boldest, truest selves. Gray is where boldness lives.

This lesson was reinforced for me on May 20, 2004. On that day I became a mother of twins and learned that my husband Brett’s cancer returned. There I was holding both life and death, joy and pain all at once. How could I possibly hold both?

There’s a song about that. Joni Mitchell’s poignant “Both Sides Now.” That song became the title of my memoir because it is the perfect metaphor for embracing life’s uncertainties. If you haven’t already done so, take a moment to read more about Both Sides Now: A True Story of Love, Loss, and Bold Living.

I’ve come to welcome the calm strength of gray away from the rigid confines of black and white.

What I can tell you with certainty is that the lessons of living in the gray have transformed my life. Embracing this nuanced place of gray is how I made sense of my story, how I was able to launch my Act 2 in Colorado, and how I continue to approach life today: smack in the sweet spot of gray, where things are neither horrible or perfect but somewhere in-between.

The BOLD Bracelet is made of semi-precious Gray Feldspar gemstones. I love these stones because of their soothing color and healing properties. Feldspar represents creativity and self-assurance, and is believed to lead us toward unconventional and exciting ways to reach our goals. I wouldn’t have imagined that a decade ago I would be where I am today—a proud Coloradan, successful author and speaker, happily remarried, and mother to four children, my twins, now 15, and my stepsons, 24 and 26, and more.

The BOLD Bracelet is a reminder for me and women and girls everywhere to keep moving forward in life no matter the circumstances. Gray is not only OK, it’s a world of unexpected gains.

So take one bold step forward. And then one more!
